"Let's Get Creative" event starts TODAY !

We have five different subjects over three days to give learners an opportunity to try illustrating, painting, cooking and writing.

The event kicks off on Tuesday 25th August at 10am when Mark Rowe presents his session “Illustration for Beginners”, starting with a simple face drawing, getting things in proportion, then tackling shading a couple of simple shapes, Mark says this session is a lot about learning technique rather than the perfect drawing. So will have plenty of tips and tricks. - all you need is a couple of sheets of paper and a pencil.

Mark is a published Illustrator and contributor to “The Adventures of Karlillapig” which averages an online following of over 10,000 per month.

We then move on to a Creative Writing session with Matt Pointon. With an MA in Creative Writing, well-travelled Matt has a lot of experience in wordplay, teaching English across Japan, Vietnam and Bulgaria.

He will start by looking at different types of writing from poems, short stories to screen-writing moving on to explore different genres and how writing can help your well-being.

Then it’s over to you, as he helps you to write a short story.

Matt is with us from 12pm – 2pm on Tuesday 25th August.

To round off the day, from 5.30pm – 7.30pm, BBC’s UK Food and Farming Chef of the Year, Mike Spackman joins us with part one of his three-part cookery webinar – firstly looking at starters.

On the menu is Minestrone Soup, Indian Chickpea and Vegetable Soup and a selection of dips.

He returns on Wednesday 26th August at 2pm with main courses – so mouths will be watering with his Chilli Con Veggie, Butternut Squash and Sage Risotto and Chicken in a Red Sweet Pepper Sauce before he concludes on Thursday from 10am with the old favourite, Sticky Toffee Pudding, followed by Best Ever Tropical Fruit Salad, Crema Catalana and Churros.

You can cook along using his recipes by downloading our “Let’s Get Cooking” booklet when booking your session. It contains the ingredients and methods for all the dishes.

We have more creativity on Wednesday (10am) and Thursday (5.30pm) when Robin Graham drops by with “Writing for the Spoken Word”, we are in for an engaging session as Robin’s passion is for communicating and sharing, and includes using laughter therapeutically and for fun. He is known as an inspirational speaker delivering workshops, training, ice breakers and presentations throughout the UK and overseas. Robin is also a writer, poet, playwright; and runs performance poetry and creative writing workshops. He has a master’s degree in health and happiness awareness so if you are looking for a way to express yourself, this session will show how fun and easy it can be to create. Ideal for beginners, he will look at: Creating short poems and prose, structure in longer stories especially for plays and films, creating characters and Identifying key words or phrases that might be used in dialogue.

Finally, it’s time to get the paints out with renowned artist Graham Benham. His two painting sessions on Wednesday 26th (5.30pm) and Thursday 27th (2pm) will have an intended picture to be painted live on the Webinar, explaining along the way what to look for, hints and tips, and what tools to use whilst going through the session.

All you need is canvas or paper to paint on. Acrylic or poster paint. A brush that will do a thin line. A filbert brush or small brush about 1cm wide. Black paint and white paint. Some tissue and something to mix paint on.

Former footballer Graham is based in Kent and has run painting classes for all ages for over 15 years.
