Essential Skills

Essential Skills qualifications are designed to equip individuals above the age of 16 with practical skills in English, Maths, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Employability. The qualifications provide skills and knowledge with the aim of improving competence and confidence to operate effectively at work and home. 


Covering all subjects that form the Essential Skills Curriculum at Entry Level 1 to Level 2, POA Learning offer flexible courses that are designed to help individuals with busy work and home lives access high quality training materials, and upskill to the required standards within a time frame that suits them. 


Our courses are available online and via blended learning. Once signed up, learners will be allocated a tutor who will support and guide them through the qualification. 

Level 2 Functional Skills Courses are equivalent to GCSE Grade 9 - 4 (previously A - C)


Essential Application of Number Skills 

Understand numerical data, carry out calculations and interpret and present results and findings.

Essential Communication Skills

Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing

Essential Digital Literacy Skills

Digital responsibility, digital productivity, digital information literacy, digital collaboration, digital creativity, digital learning

Essential Employability Skills

Critical thinking and problem solving, planning and organisation, creativity and innovation and personal effectiveness
