The big news at Norwich is that, following a few months of Dave running the Centre singlehandedly, we have now appointed a new Learner Support. However, to add to the confusion, he is also called Dave. Welcome Dave Silverman to the POA Learning team (hereinafter referred to as Dave S). Dave S brings experience from the world of secondary education particularly in the areas of English and PE. He is beginning a Book Club this month and also starting a Creative Writing course. These will be on a Wednesday evening and further details can be obtained by calling the centre or just dropping in.

Dave B is holding an initial meeting this month with a view to starting a Photography Club and much interest has been shown in a Digital Photography course. These will take place on a Monday evening.

The centre opening hours will be changing from 19th October to include the above late evenings. The new opening times are

Monday                       08:00 to 20:00

Tuesday                       08:00 to 17:00

Wednesday                 08:00 to 20:00

Thursday                     08:00 to 17:00

Friday                          08:00 to 15:00

HMP Norwich is currently undergoing major changes including:

Changes to the way shifts are allocated;

Job rotations;

A reduction in staff numbers due to staff moving to the new HMP Bure;

Merging of the Main Prison with the YOI;

The opening of the Resettlement unit;

The introduction of the new C-NOMIS information system;

The opening of the newly built A-wing;

The requirement for all instructional staff to hold, at least, a PTTLS qualification.

Many of the above changes require different skills, qualifications and experiences which the Learning Centre may be able to help with. If we cannot help, through our Information, Advice and Guidance contract we may be able to signpost you to a suitable provider. Please contact us for further information on any of the above.
